Tinctory

While perusing the interwebs one lovely evening, I came across a post about tinctory. I had to share.

 

Each piece is made entirely by hand, using just needle and thread and naturally-dyed silk. The dye plants used for the silk are either gathered or planted by the artist. The fabric designs are paired with antiqued sterling silver, vintage beads and semi-precious stones.

Kyle Anne Metals

Almost every Monday morning, without fail, I walk down the hall to my coworkers office and ask him "So, Diamond Dave, did you put a ring on it this weekend?" I enjoy this game. Diamond Dave, not so much. But that doesn't stop me.

And yes, I really do refer to him as Diamond Dave. And I know he loves it.

I showed him a ring from Kyle Anne Metals as an option. He's thinking about it! Baby steps, my friends, baby steps.

Miss Me?

Well, it appears that I have become the world's worst blogger on earth. I'm going to give my "I'm going to post daily" goal another go...though it will be more like "I'm going to post every few days!" We'll see what happens. I'm sure nobody's life has been missing out!

What the heck have I been doing? I've been busy doing other things like enjoying the beautiful summer weather, playing lots of volleyball, starting my very first garden and attempting to overhaul my backyard (ummm, I mean my landlords!) and turn it into a place that actually looks good. I finished my 82nd semester back in school (!) and just started taking a screen printing class, which I LOVE. And next week my summer jewelry class begins. So much to do, so little time!

While perusing Etsy today to start getting inspired for class next week I found these simple little ditties. I'm not a gal that likes ornate objects. Simplicity is beautiful and I think these are so beautiful. They are made with love by The Loud Lion. What a fun name. ROAR!

Melanie Bilenker

I'm in this pretty amazing class this semester where we get to hear from different artists each week. The artist who presented tonight mentioned Melanie Bilenker as an influence and showed a piece of her work. Work that, I should point out, was made with hair. I couldn't wait to get home and google her!

In the artist's own words:
The Victorians kept lockets of hair and miniature portraits painted with ground hair and pigment to secure the memory of a lost love. In much the same way, I secure my memories through photographic images rendered in lines of my own hair, the physical remnants. I do not reproduce events, but quiet minutes, the mundane, the domestic, the ordinary moments.

Oh yes, I know. The song is old. But still so darn catchy. And yes, the joke is played out. But I just got out of 7 hours of class so don't expect much from me.

I needed something pretty to look at tonight to perk myself up so where better to look than Etsy! I think Etsy could really solve all of  the world's problems, don't you? Anyway, tonight I had my first jewelry class of the semester and I've been thinking about nothing but rings. Check these out. Though they may not necessarily be something I would wear, they are all beautiful in some way and are eye catching.
