Vintage Katha Quilts

These. Are. Beautiful.

Take some time (like, oh, hours) to peruse the Niki Jones web site. So many beautiful items for your home. And, as you can tell, I'm partial to the vintage items.

Thanks to Eat Drink Chic for posting these!

Urban Station

This is where I will be working when I (someday!) work for myself. And when I am living in Buenos Aires. Could be a long commute to the "office" if I'm still living in Madison.

Hanky Panky

What will I be spending the next few days doing? Dyeing fabric. Weeeee!

My first project is to design and dye a series of ten handkerchiefs.  I'm hoping that for my first time I might actually get results I'm hoping for. Like, maybe, a color palette like this:

Twinkling Toes

Today was the first day my toes have seen sunshine in a very long time. Yeah! I haven't bought polish since, ummm, 2007. I think it's time I try something new, don't you?

The best part about picking out a new color? The name!

Romeo & Juliet - the colors show up soooo much better on the OPI site, by the way!
Ate Berries in the Canaries
20 Candles on My Cake.
MonSooner or Later
Yoga-ta Get this Blue. Ok, I don't think I would ever wear this color. I just think the name is hilarious.

NARS Schiap. Ok, so the name isn't that exciting. But it's probably my favorite color out of all of these!

What I Love: Positively Green Cards

Today, during my favorite lunchtime activity of reading all the latest magazines at the bookstore, I got distracted by these cards. The colors are so vibrant and the designs are very cool. I especially love the color combos. And thankfully, the messages on each card aren't too cheesy. Always a plus ;)

The cards are made by Positively Green, a company that "green manufactures" all of their products. Each card also has an easy-to-do environmental tip on the back. You can check out their web site for more green tips.

Please Read Your Viction:ary

Today I finally made it to the Art Institute of Chicago. Yes, finally! Considering I've been to Chicago a bazillion times (ok, that might be a slight exaggeration) I have never been to the Art Institute.  By the way, admission is FREE in February!

I didn't have too much time but I raced through each gallery trying to soak in as much as I could. And, of course, I had to make a stop  in the museum shops. How great is it that they have multiple shops?? The collection of art books is amazing. I made a list of all that I wanted to buy. I think the list is nearing 100. Yikes!

One book near the top of my list is Musikgraphics.

Viction Workshop LTD is the brains behind this book as well as many other books related to graphic and visual communications. You can find more of the viction:ary books on their site. Here are just a few more I've added to my book list!

Colour Is For Lovours...of Music

One of the best things about buying a new album is staring at the cover art. I always wonder what the band and the artist are trying to tell us about the music through the cover artwork.

Colourlovers.com, a web site that helps me waste hours of time developing color (or should I say colour?) palettes, put together a Best Album Palettes of 2009 list. Check it out here. Are there any you would add to the list?

And the Winner Is.....

(Pantone.com)
Turquoise!

Pantone recently unveiled the Color of the Year for 2010. It's PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise.

"Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects
of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters
and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles
of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing."

I have always been a fan of turquoise. Many days you will find me wearing one of my favorite pairs of turquoise earrings. Such a great accent to any outfit.

It truly is a color that is timeless and almost anyone can wear. Whether you want to rock an elegant, natural, or quirky look turquoise is a great choice.

Turquoise is great on its own but it's also a great color to mix with others, whether in fashion or interiors. Some of my favorite color combinations are:
  • T & Orange
  • T & Gray
  • T & Silver
  • T & Black and/or White
  • T & Pink
  • T & Yellow
  • T & Just about anything
It also reminds me of a beautiful ocean...and my trip to Belize and Honduras this summer. Oh, to be back here lying on the beach!
